Mission: Greater Foothills Helping Hands, Faith in Action is neighbors helping neighbors maintain independence, dignity and quality of life. Vision: To provide no cost home services to the elderly and disabled such as: transportation, shopping for or with, errands, home repair, handyman services, build wheelchair ramps, yard work, friendly phoning, friendly visiting, companion sitting, a pet emergency program and the H.E.L.P. program (Home Emergency Life Protection), which is a personal emergency response system that provides help quickly and peace of mind that you are not alone.
Description:
Helping Hands provides invaluable assistance to area residents who strive to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes. Without the support and assistance of volunteers, their quality of life would be in jeopardy. The best thing about volunteering with Helping Hands is the flexibility. You do not have to commit to do something every week or every month. We will call and say, "so and so needs to have someone do grocery shopping for them on Friday morning, can you do that?" This allows our volunteers to participate as little or as much as they would like and still maintain their own socializing and or medical appointments. It is a win/win situation for everyone involved. Because of volunteer assistance, we can provide older people with many services and we often hear, "If it weren't for you, I would have to live with my family or be in an institution. I would lose my independence." Wouldn't you want that kind of help for you or your parents/grand parents?
History:
"Greater Foothills Helping Hands, Faith in Action" was founded by Lucille Arnold-Harris July 1995. January 1996 they received their 501(c)3 non-profit tax status. This volunteer organization has grown from 2 volunteers to 400 volunteers (winter) and 150 volunteers (summer). Many individuals, organizations, companies and churches volunteer their time, vehicles, gas and talents in many different areas. Volunteers provide help with our craft group making party favors, centerpieces and decorations for the parties Helping Hands puts on to get our care receivers out and about. Volunteers make cards for all occasions. Other volunteer opportunities include special occasion committees, events committees, Super Yard Sale helpers, art work, fund raising, office help and just lots of fun in general. Orientations for new volunteers happen monthly in the winter with follow up volunteer training. We have special events just for the volunteers as well; such as potlucks, pie and ice cream socials and much more. You are invited to come and be part of our caring and dedicated folks who just really care about helping others. The rewards are tremendous for everyone. We strive to make you feel special and very welcome. Call us or come see us because it may be that call that is life changing.
