Yuma Art Center
The Arts and Culture Division exists to promote the importance of the arts and culture for the enhancement of the community. The Division works to strengthen existing arts organizations and facilities and develop programs and facilities where voids exist.
Description:
The Division serves as support to the Arts and Culture Commission, Ad Hoc Public Art Committee and Yuma Regional Arts Alliance. The Division functions as the center of information for the community regarding Arts and Cultural activities and manages the 40,000 square foot Yuma Art Center, which includes the Historic Yuma Theatre.
History:
The organization was established in 1997 by the Yuma City Council. Beginning with only two staff members and a limited budget, we now have eight full-time and one part-time employees.The completion of the Yuma Art Center thrust our division into new territory creating an environment conducive to the promotion of the arts in our community.We manage the 640 seat Historic Yuma Theatre that showcases local arts performers as well as providing a venue for professional touring groups. A four gallery visual art museum exhibits artworks created by local, regional and nationally known artists. Education spaces allows for classes in theatre, music, and visual arts, including photography. A black and white photography developing studio and potters studio will draw Artists for residency programs.
