Yuma Orchestra Association's mission statement is "To champion and leave a legacy of orchestral music in our communities."

Description:
Yuma Orchestra Association collaborates with Arizona Western College, Yuma School District One, and Yuma Union High School District with the formation of the Yuma String Consortium. Yuma Orchestra Association provides the only comprehensive string education program in the Yuma area. Our on-going programs start with children as young as five years old and progress through the college level. Yuma Orchestra Association provides children and adults of all ethnic backgrounds and income levels an equal opportunity to play a string instrument and provides scholarships to allow low income and multiple children families to have instruments to play and have private, individual music lessons. We expose children, their families, and the community to classical music - the basis for all culture - by promoting string playing in the community by performance opportunities.

History:
Yuma Orchestra Association (YOA) was incorporated in October, 1976, and has been supported throughout its 33 year history by volunteers. YOA joined the Yuma String Consortium in March, 1992. In 1987, YOA started the "String Ambassadors" for high school students to encourage younger children to play string instruments as well as to enhance the students' performing skills. In 2002, "Junior String Ambassadors" group was added for junior high school students. Due to the popularity of those programs, "Young String Ambassadors" was added in 2003 for elementary school students. And in 2005, "Twinklers" group was added for five to ten year olds who are motivated to learn a string instrument and perform for an audience. Our regular concert series begins with "Classics by Moonlight", followed by "Spirit of Christmas", "Romantic Classics", "Ballet and Strings at Sunset", "Orchestral Classics", "Concerto Classics" and ending with "Celebration of Strings" - an all Yuma-area strings program concert. In 2007 due to many requests, "Strings del Rio Music Camp" was started to help beginners and to expand string education during the summer in Yuma.
