Joint Action In Community Service- Western Region
| Last updated on January 31, 2012 |
Joint Action In Community Service (JACS) helps young adults enter the workforce and become self-reliant.
Description:
JACS is a non-profit organization of committed staff and volunteers who provide support to low-income youth who participate in the Job Corps program. Job Corps is a federal, residential program that offers education, job training and job placement opportunities to low-income youth ages 16-24 free of charge.
History:
Founded in 1967, JACS was designed as a community-based program, national in scope yet local in focus. Our founders believed JACS could reach and involve community members in a nationwide series
of local efforts to help rural and urban disadvantaged youth make the most of their assets. Thus, the partnership between JACS and Job Corps began, with
JACS successfully tapping one of America's oldest and most valuable resources --volunteer action -- to support and strengthen the Job Corps program while implementing the mission of JACS. Formed as a bridge between the Job Corps program and the world of work for former students, the goal of JACS is to assist students on a one-to-one basis in
making the transition from Job Corps to life back into their community a much smoother one.
