Habitat for Humanity of Yuma is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry whose objective is to eliminate poverty housing from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. By having people from many walks of life working together in equal partnership, Habitat builds new relationships and a sense of community as well as new houses.
Description:
Habitat for Humanity is not a give-away program. Families are selected on the basis of their need for adequate shelter, their ability to pay, and their willingness to partner. Each family contributes up to 500 hours of 'sweat equity' towards the construction of their home, which is sold to the partner family for no profit with no-interest mortgages. Habitat for Humanity helps families of low to very low incomes realize the dream of home ownership that is not possible through traditional home financing.
History:
Habitat for Humanity has been in Yuma since 1996. We have a subdivision for Habitat homes located at 27th Street and South 18th Drive.
