Purpose of Friends of Yuma County Libraries is to better and support the Yuma County libraries, to focus public attention on library services, facilities and needs, and to stimulate gifts of books, magazines, audiovisual materials, desirable collections, endowments and bequests. We also have fun! 

Description:
Friends are a non-profit volunteer support group for Yuma County Library District's public libraries. Friends support the efforts of the libraries. They encourage use of the libraries and the library online databases. Foothills, San Luis, Somerton, Roll, and Dateland are a part of this Friends group - the "Main Friends". Wellton Friends have their own 501 C 3 but work towards the same goals as Friends of Yuma County Libraries.

Friends have a permanent book sale at Yuma Park N Swap from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Fridays & Saturdays November-March, thanks to the generosity of Bill Gresser, Jr., owner of Yuma Park N Swap. We have special book sales at scheduled times as well as online. Friends also sell books in the libraries.

Our annual fundraiser is DEATH BY CHOCOLATE - An Evening of Decadent Indulgences • Chocolate Sampling & Silent Auction. the last Saturday in January.

The Friends and Yuma Reading Council organize a Free to Read Book Fair at Barnes & Noble the second Friday & Saturday in September. Friday night there is a pajama party storytime for 3-10 year olds. Kids are encouraged to wear their pjs and bring a blanket/sleeping bag for some bedtime stories. Saturday is filled with local American Heroes reading stories to kids. There are crafts, activities, and picture taking with the heroes. All children attending receive a goodie bag and a FREE book. Every year hundreds of children and their families attend this free community event.

History:
Friends became a non profit in 1986 after years of just being a support group. They have typically raised funds for the libraries by book sales, but are now having fundraisers and raffles. F
