Our mission is to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children who are involved in the juvenile courts. Children range in ages of 0 to 18 years old. We provide specific training to volunteers in order to make their volunteer experience a successful one.
Description:
We promote and support community-based volunteers, certified by the Supreme Court, who provide quality advocacy to help assure each child a safe, permanent, nurturing home. The volunteer advocate gathers information from all parties in the case. This includes child protective services, educators, counselors, and physicians. The information that is gathered is used to make a recommendation to the Court as to what is in the best interest of the child. The advocate also helps to ensure that the child's basic needs are being met while they are in out of home placement.
History:
CASA has been in Yuma County for 14 years. We are housed in the Yuma County Juvenile Court Center. CASA volunteers report to the Presiding Judge as another set of "eyes and ears" to obtain the whole picture of what is happening with a child and their family.
