NMCRS provides, in partnership with the Navy and Marine Corps, financial, educational, and other assistance to Marines, Sailors, their families, and survivors, active duty and retired, when in need, and receives and manages funds to administer these programs.
Description:
NMCRS is a private, non-profit, volunteer service organization committed to ensuring that all available resources are used to assist personnel of the Naval Service-active, retired, and their eligible family members- to achieve financial self-sufficiency and find solutions to emergency needs. Volunteers receive training to enable them to give financial assistance, budget counseling, and teach Budget for Baby classes at the local NMCRS office. NMCRS volunteers also operate a Thrift Shop aboard the air station to recycle useable items at an inexpensive cost, aiming to provide a service and help stretch paychecks.
History:
Founded in 1904, NMCRS has expanded from one office to more than 250 worldwide in its centennial year. Founded to assist widows and orphans, the Society has expanded the scope of its assistance to include active duty and retired, Marines, Sailors, and the families when in need.
