History:
PFLAG stands for Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians & Gays & is an international grassroots non-profit organization originally started in San Francisco in 1973 by a young mother feeling alone & saddened by seeing her gay son discriminated against & bashed around.By 1979 PFLAG chapters had formed across the country. In 1982 PFLAG became incorporated as a national organization. Upon watching "the Amencio Project" a film about the murder of a young gay man here in Yuma in 2005 & the fact that one of my daughters is gay, it sparked the inspiration for starting a PFLAG here in Yuma(January 24th,2010) as I saw a need for awareness, understanding, love & tolerance & wanted to be available for parents, families & friends who may not know where to turn upon finding out their loved one is gay.
