Sunstone Cancer Support Centers provides hope and healing to people touched by cancer.

Our vision is that cancer survivors and their loved ones are empowered to make wise decisions regarding their care. We aim high, are creative, and demonstrate courage in discovering and implementing effective, life-changing programs. We listen and learn from the diversity of ideas that we seek from within and through alliances in the local community and beyond. We demonstrate principles of ethical behavior through accessibility to all, responsiveness to participants and mutual respect.

Description:
Sunstone Cancer Support Centers is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing hope and healing to people touched by cancer. We define a cancer survivor as a person on the first day of their diagnosis. We offer a range of complementary therapies to help survivors, their loved ones and friends manage their stress and cope with the crisis of cancer. Sunstone offers a lending library for those who need to explore different types of cancer, treatment, and related issues. Sunstone offers a wig room where those who have lost hair during chemotherapy can borrow (or keep) wigs, hats, and scarves. We offer support groups, nutrition workshops, and brief counseling sessions for cancer survivors and their families.

Sunstone also makes available personal touch therapies such as Reiki, massage, healing touch, and acupuncture. All touch therapies cost $35, but if a client cannot afford that, then they will be charged according to a sliding scale, with a $5 minimum required. Movement classes, such as Yoga and Tai Chi, are available at a cost of $5 per person.

History:
In 2001, a group of dedicated cancer survivors envisioned places in Southern Arizona where cancer survivors and their caregivers could meet, get educated and get services which were complementary to the treatment they were receiving from their doctors. This vision included places where survivors and their loved ones would be greeted by professional counseling staff as well as volunteer cancer survivors who would help them cope with their diagnosis. This vision was recently expanded when Sunstone received funding to begin our latest Resource Center in Yuma.
