Description:
Programs: Affordable Homeownership The Self-Help Housing Program provides assistance to very-low and low income families willing and able to participate in building 65% of their own house. The low income status is regulated under USDA Rural Development’s low income guidelines. Foreclosure Prevention & Electric Hybrid Water Heaters Replacement Program. Homeownership Education and Counseling Program prepares individuals and families for homeownership through an eight hour class that focuses on credit, budgeting, predatory lending, plus housing counseling sessions. Post-Purchase Counseling is a free service with no income restrictions for new and current homeowners. The counselor provides individual and confidential counseling to families or individuals that have fallen behind on their mortgage/or are facing foreclosure. Affordable Rental Housing Multi-Family Housing Program consists of six low-income housing complexes. Del Pueblo Apartments with 40 units is located in Somerton, AZ. These apartments’ rents are subsidized through HUD's Section 8 Program. Colorado Street Apartments with 32 units located in Yuma, AZ and Orchid Street Apartments in Somerton, AZ with 16 units complexes. Amistad Apartments with 24 units located in Somerton, AZ is a Low Income Housing Tax Credit property, funded by the Arizona Department of Housing, Enterprise Social Investment Corporation (ESIC), and USDA Rural Development. All apartment rents except Del Pueblo are subsidized by USDA Rural Development. Harrison Haven in Kingman, AZ is a 56 unit apartment complex and Valle del Desierto in Somerton, AZ a 44 unit apartment complex for very-low income seniors.
History:
History Housing America Corporation formally known as Yuma County Housing Development Corporation was founded by a team of leaders and community activists who saw the need of affordable housing in Yuma County and with the vision they created the Yuma County Housing Development Corporation. The first project was Del Pueblo apartments, a 40 unit USDA Rural Development farm labor housing complex in Somerton, AZ. Consequently, Colorado Street Apartments, a 32 unit USDA Rural Development farm labor housing complex was also built in Yuma, AZ. In 1981 the Self-Help Program was incorporated to continue building on the vision of providing affordable housing and making homeownership available to low income individuals and families. In 1995, Housing America opened a satellite office in Kingman, AZ.
